R.K. Seed Farms (Regd.) is an organization for quality vegetable seed production, research and marketing. The company came into existence in 1972 at SOLAN, HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Ram Kishore Aggarwal. To, start with, the main emphasis was production and marketing of late cauliflower varieties. Later on, R.K. Seeds started working in almost all the vegetable seeds including hybrids. Now these days, R.K. seeds is a leading company in seed production and marketing of Cauliflower, Cabbage, Chilly, Bhindi (Okra) , Cucumber, Bottle Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Tomato, Brinjal, Watermelon, Sponge Gourd, Beans, Pumpkin etc.
In early nineties, there was a shift to the use of F1 hybrids, because of their added advantage of being uniform, high yielding and having long distance transportation qualities. This prompted the company to take up the research and development of F1 hybrids of tomato, cucumber brinjal, Chilies, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, luffa gourd, bhindi etc. A collection of germplasm of different vegetable crops was built up and heterosis breeding programme initiated. Subsequently number of F1 hybrids were developed. Our F1 hybrids of tomato, bottle gourd, okra, chilly, pumpkin, sponge gourd, ridge gourd and open pollinated varieties of cauliflower, spanich carrot, coriander, cabbage, radish, cucumber, besides being on sale in India, are being exported all over the globe.
Further the germplasm of okra, bottle gourd and tomato were screened for yellow vein mosaic, anthracnose and leaf curl virus respectively under field conditions. The resistant lines thus screened would be used for incorporating disease resistance.
